Interview with Philipp Ausserhofer - ultra trail runner and trained pharmacist

Philipp Ausserhofer is a trail runner and trained pharmacist. When running over 100 kilometers over hill and dale, one thing must not suffer - and that is performance. His approach to the topic of performance and longevity is therefore a special one.

Who is Philipp Ausserhofer?

Mario (MOLEQLAR): Philipp, could you briefly introduce yourself and tell us about your journey as an ultra-runner and pharmacist?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Sure! I am Philipp Ausserhofer, born in '92, from South Tyrol and now at home in the beautiful Stubai Valley in Tyrol. The mountains have always been my playground - whether running, ski touring, climbing, or biking. I am a trained pharmacist, have worked as a pharmacist - but then followed my calling to ultra-trail running. This change was a difficult decision at the time, requiring a lot of courage, but in hindsight, it was one of the best of my life.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): How did you get into ultra-running or trail running, and what fascinates you about this extreme sport?

Philipp Ausserhofer: I grew up in the mountains and learned to move outdoors playfully as a child – completely without competitive thoughts. It was always about fun, joy, and adventure. My family introduced me to the mountain world and made me familiar with both beauty and danger. It was about personal projects and experiences. At some point, however, the desire to compete arose. From an early age, I was especially fascinated by the discipline of "Ultra" – because it challenges not only physically but especially mentally. It's not just about running, but about perseverance, endurance, and growth. Mentally as well as physically.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): What does a typical day in your daily life look like?

Philipp Ausserhofer: To be honest, I don't really know the word "daily life" – daily for me is more of a synonym for "boring." My life is more like the elevation profile of an ultra: full of ups and downs, highs and lows, but I love exactly that. My daily routine depends on the season phase and varies greatly. Still, I try to create certain routines for myself – they are my anchor. A typical start: a coffee together with my girlfriend, followed by a mobility session. Then it’s time for training and everything that comes with the athlete's life: regeneration, biohacking, product development, office, shootings, interviews…

The pharmaceutical perspective: sport, science, and longevity

Mario (MOLEQLAR): How does your pharmaceutical training connect with your passion for ultrarunning?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Very strongly! The scientific working method that I learned as a pharmacist – accuracy, structured thinking, curiosity – helps me immensely. I can better understand biomechanical and anatomical relationships, as well as nutrition, and integrate them purposefully into my training and recovery.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): How do you define longevity from your perspective, and why is this topic so important to you as an athlete?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Longevity means for me: making sure that it "runs" as well as possible for as long as possible – in the truest sense of the word. It’s about performance, health, mental clarity, and the joy of movement – even at 80. I don’t want to say later “I used to be able to,” but hopefully one day show my children and grandchildren how it’s done and introduce them to the mountain world just as my family did with me. In terms of sports, longevity primarily means focusing on the long-term process, trusting that development is heading in the right direction. For that, you have to make the right decisions early on. Today for tomorrow, so to speak.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): How important are prevention and early measures for long-term health – especially regarding mental fitness?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Extremely important. I see a strong parallel to competitive sports: In competition, you can only perform what you have prepared in training. There are no miracles, only preparation. Prevention works exactly the same way – you lay the foundation today for what you want to achieve tomorrow. And the mental component is often underestimated – yet it is precisely in ultra events that it determines whether you succeed or not.

Performance Optimization and Longevity Supplements

Mario (MOLEQLAR): Are there specific habits, supplements, or scientifically based practices that help you maximize your performance?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Routines help me maintain focus even in stressful phases. Sleep is my superpower – without it, nothing works. I work with targeted Longevity Supplements, but only based on blood analyses and scientific background. No blind flight or "watering can principle." Covering specific needs in high quality is crucial.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): As a pharmacist who knows science and practice – what do you pay attention to when choosing a supplement or a brand like MOLEQLAR?

Philipp Ausserhofer: I don't work with brands just because they look good – but when it fits based on solid grounds. I want targeted products based on data. "Less is more" applies here.

Important criteria for me are purity, quality, and of course the “Kölner Liste”, especially as an athlete.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): How did you become aware of MOLEQLAR – and what do you appreciate about the brand?

Philipp Ausserhofer: In fact, the first contact came from MOLEQLAR. The conversations felt honest and good from the very beginning. Qualified people stand behind the brand – no marketing fluff. And the scientifically based approach convinces me.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): Have you integrated specific MOLEQLAR products into your daily life?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Yes, MOLEQLAR has become a fixed part of my daily routine. The products form the basis for optimally preparing myself at the cellular level for training and competition – especially when it comes to recovery and long-term performance.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): What do you think distinguishes MOLEQLAR from other brands in the field of supplements and diagnostics?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Clearly: the scientific approach. It's not about empty promises, but about proven facts. About real effects. You can feel it.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): What influence does the use of high-quality supplements have on your recovery and performance – especially during long sessions and competitions?

Philipp Ausserhofer: The addition of high-quality is crucial here. It's not about just any supplements, but the right ones, in the right quality. Only then can they really help – whether in recovery or in preparation for high loads.

Your path to success: Tips for sports and everyday life

Mario (MOLEQLAR): What would you advise someone who wants to remain capable in the long term – in sports and in everyday life?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Learn to read your body. Work with it, not against it.

My advice:
Sleep is your superpower.
• Regular blood tests instead of flying blind.
• Quality over quantity – less is often more.
• Seek rituals, not extremes.

And perhaps the most important thing: Health is not a coincidence, but a daily decision. Those who consistently make small, good decisions – in nutrition, exercise, recovery, and mental hygiene – will benefit in the long run. In sports as in life.

Mario (MOLEQLAR): Do you have a final word for our readers?

Philipp Ausserhofer: Make your body your priority – not someday, but now. And dare to have the courage to believe in your dreams. Because a dream remains a dream if we do not dare to live it.Dream and dare – this is not just my life motto, but the attitude with which I get up every day. And this privilege of finding what truly attracts you, what feels right – I wish that for each and every one of you. Let's go - it's worth it!
